MEDIA RELEASE: HIGH WYCOMBE PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEIVES $25,000 TO UPGRADE FACILITIES

Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas today announced High Wycombe Primary School has received a Commonwealth Government grant of $25,000 to upgrade its facilities under Labor’s Schools Upgrade Fund.

Visiting the school today, Ms Mascarenhas said the money will be used for much-needed upgrade to the 60-year-old classrooms. She took the opportunity to see firsthand the work to be carried out under the grant.

“At the 2022 election, Labor promised to invest in local schools. We have delivered on that promise,” said Ms Mascarenhas.

School principal Stacey Newman said the school was delighted to receive the grant.

“We are so grateful for the generous $25,000 grant for learning spaces. It will make a significant difference to the beautifying of our school.

“Freshening up the tired areas of the school such as the senior classrooms will encourage student learning. It is easier to learn in a clean and fresh environment,” said Ms Newman.

Ms Mascarenhas also joined Year 6 students to unveil a giant chess set donated to the school by its local childcare provider, The Big Childcare.

Ms Newman said, “We have some chess masterminds that beat me every time, so we appreciate the opportunity to have Ms Mascarenhas visit the school and witness their talents.”

Ms Mascarenhas said she was impressed by the community spirit at the school.

“What struck me about High Wycombe Primary School is the sense of community and pride in the long history of the school. It has a lovely country-town feel right in the heart of the foothills.

“I even learnt a few rules of chess today from some very bright kids!” she said.

The work at High Wycombe Primary School is scheduled to be carried out in the coming months. A total of $218,000 has been awarded to nine schools in the electorate of Swan. This round of the Schools Upgrade Fund provided $32 million to schools nationwide.

All Australian schools (public & private) were eligible to apply for a grant up to $25,000. All Australian schools were invited by the Department of Education to apply. The Department of Education reviewed all applications, and allocated funds based on merit.
